TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 56-5-1925 SO AS TO PROHIBIT TRUCKS WITH A GROSS WEIGHT OF TEN THOUSAND POUNDS OR MORE FROM TRAVELING IN THE FARTHEST LEFT-HAND LANE ON A DIVIDED HIGHWAY WITH THREE OR MORE LANES AND TO PROVIDE EXCEPTIONS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 56-5-1925. When a highway has been divided by leaving an intervening space or by a physical barrier or clearly indicated dividing section and there are three or more lanes for traffic in any one direction, no truck of ten thousand pounds gross vehicle weight or over may be driven in the farthest left-hand lane, except when and to the extent necessary to prepare for a left turn, to enter or leave the highway by entrance or exit to or from the left lane, or when reasonably necessary in response to emergency conditions."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
