A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY AT THE DEATH OF LUGENIA K. HAMMOND OF RICHLAND COUNTY AND EXTENDING SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, Mrs. Lugenia K. Hammond of Richland County died recently at the age of ninety-four; and

Whereas, she quietly went about changing her community for the better, and her friends and neighbors consider her legacy to be the Lugenia K. Hammond Village, a public housing complex off River Drive in north Columbia; and

Whereas, she had endeavored for years to have public housing built in that area to replace the run-down, unacceptable housing that existed in what was called Camp Fornance; and

Whereas, she helped and served her community in many other ways and was a dynamic individual and a very remarkable lady; and

Whereas, those who knew her truly mourn her passing because her goodness, energy, concern, and success in the community will be sorely missed; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, as the representatives of the people of South Carolina, are grateful for the efforts and contributions of so outstanding a person and want Mrs. Hammond's family and countless friends to know that they have their deepest sympathy. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, expresses sorrow at the death of Lugenia K. Hammond of Richland County and extends sympathy to her family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Mrs. Hammond.
