TO CONGRATULATE THE CAMDEN HIGH SCHOOL BOYS TENNIS TEAM FOR WINNING THE 1991 STATE CLASS AAA CHAMPIONSHIP.
Whereas, on Saturday, May 11, 1991, at the Richland County Tennis Center, the Camden High School boys tennis team defeated a very fine Myrtle Beach team 4-3 to win the 1991 State Class AAA championship; and
Whereas, in this tremendous victory the Bulldogs came back from 2-1 and 3-2 deficits which is indicative of the courage and determination they have shown all season; and
Whereas, this championship ended a five-year climb to the top for the Bulldogs who reached the Class AAA semifinals in each of the last four years and the finals in 1989 but did not win; and
Whereas, the talent, ability, and sportsmanship of team members Stephen Smoak, Jason Finley, Keith Branham, Trey Love, Attila Bartha, Matt Foster, Chris Hanley, Ryan Goodroe, and Brett McLeod speak highly and bring great credit not only upon themselves but upon their school and county as well; and
Whereas, under the leadership of Coach Roger Smoak, Camden has built a tennis program that will be a factor in the state playoffs for many years to come; and
Whereas, their remarkable season culminating in the state championship is something this talented group of young men and their coaches, classmates, and fans will long remember and the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and congratulate them upon this outstanding achievement. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly hereby congratulate the Camden High School boys tennis team for winning the 1991 State Class AAA championship.
Be it further resolved that the members of the Camden High School tennis team and Coach Roger Smoak shall be recognized for their accomplishments on Tuesday, May 21, 1991, in the Hall of the House of Representatives at a time to be determined by the Speaker and shall be given the privilege of the floor on this occasion.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach Smoak and the principal of Camden High School.
