TO RECOGNIZE MR. MCLESTER MCDOWELL OF ANDERSON UPON HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE SOUTH CAROLINA STATE EMPLOYMENT SERVICE AND TO WISH HIM WELL IN HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, Mr. McLester McDowell of Anderson is retiring after working at the South Carolina State Employment Service for thirty-eight years and after two years of service in the United States Army; and
Whereas, Mr. McDowell was born in Anderson County and is the son of the late Mrs. Janie Anderson McDowell and Frank McDowell. He has five sisters: Velmer Rochester, Zora Butler, Parniece Carter, Editha Sadler, and Helen Rice; and four brothers: Waddle, Leonard, L. M., and Willie M.; and
Whereas, he received his early education from Deep Creek Elementary and Reed Street High School in Anderson; and
Whereas, with many years on the job, Mr. McDowell still has been active in civic and community work. Among those in which he participated actively are: Rucker V. F. W. Post 6089; Committeeman for Ward Four Precinct Two; Certified Poll Manager of Anderson County; Chairperson for Political Action Committee Anderson County Branch, N.A.A.C.P.; Anderson County Land Use Committee; and Chairperson for Southside of Community Development Program for the City of Anderson; and
Whereas, Mr. McDowell is a member of Saint Paul Baptist Church where he is a member of the Men's Sunday School Class; former member of the Usher Board; Assistant Superintendent of the Sunday School; and Trustee Board Member for twenty-six years. He also has served as Sunday School teacher; and
Whereas, always working to help young people seek employment, after retirement Mr. McDowell will continue to give advice on employment and being a good employee; and
Whereas, there is no better way to describe the character of Mr. McDowell than to use his own words about retiring: "Take care of myself, and do some of the things I was unable to do while working. I will continue to keep involved in community and civic organizations and continue to visit the sick and shut-ins in the hospital, in health care centers, and at home." Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly recognize Mr. McLester McDowell of Anderson upon his retirement from the South Carolina State Employment Service and wish him well in his future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. McLester McDowell.
