COMMENDING THE CITADEL REGIMENTAL BAND AND THE PIPE BAND FOR THEIR EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE IN THE ANNUAL, WORLD-FAMOUS EDINBURGH MILITARY TATTOO AT EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND DURING THE SUMMER OF 1991 AND FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING REPRESENTATION OF THE STATE AND THE NATION.
Whereas, The Citadel Regimental Band and the Pipe Band performed in the annual, world-famous Edinburgh Military Tattoo at Edinburgh, Scotland during the summer of 1991; and
Whereas, sixty-eight Citadel cadets who comprised the band and bagpipe units played before enormous crowds of spectators from around the world gathered at Edinburgh Castle last July and August for the nightly shows of music, pageantry, and military demonstrations; and
Whereas, the Edinburgh Military Tattoo has been performed at Edinburgh Castle each year since 1950, and it is estimated through the years that the pageant has attracted more than five million people; and
Whereas, performers from many countries take part in the Tattoo, and The Citadel Regimental Band and the Pipe Band were the only American units invited for the 1991 show, having been invited by the Tattoo's producer, Colonel Leslie P.G. Dow, O.B.E., in March of 1990; and
Whereas, The Citadel's performance was excellent and the Regimental Band and the Pipe Band were very popular with the spectators; and
Whereas, we are tremendously proud of the wonderful representation of South Carolina and of the United States provided by these outstanding cadets from The Citadel and feel that they are highly deserving of recognition. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commends The Citadel Regimental Band and the Pipe Band for their excellent performance in the annual, world-famous Edinburgh Military Tattoo during the summer of 1991 and for their outstanding representation of the State and the nation.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Lt. General Claudius E. Watts, III, president of The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, in behalf of the Regimental Band and the Pipe Band.
