A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 56-5-5017 SO AS TO REQUIRE A DRIVER OF A MOTOR VEHICLE WITH A SUNSCREEN DEVICE SIGNALED BY A LAW ENFORCEMENT VEHICLE TO STOP TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS OF THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY UPON STOPPING AND PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 56-5-5017. A driver of a motor vehicle with a sunscreen device, as defined in Section 56-5-5015, signaled by a law enforcement vehicle to stop, as provided in Section 56-5-750, immediately upon stopping shall roll down the windows of the vehicle. A person who violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, must be fined not less than five hundred dollars or imprisoned not less than ninety days."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
