A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE VERY DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE FAMILY OF MR. WILLIE SCOTT, SR., ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL OF NEWBERRY HIGH SCHOOL, WHO DIED TRAGICALLY IN A BOATING ACCIDENT EARLIER THIS MONTH.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were deeply saddened to learn of the boating accident in early January which took the life of Mr. Willie Scott, Sr., of Newberry; and

Whereas, Willie Scott was a prominent educator in Newberry County who was assistant principal at Newberry High School which he joined in 1970 after having coached football and basketball at Gallman High School; and

Whereas, he was admired and respected by his students, friends, and colleagues for his no-nonsense manner combined with a true sense of caring for all those with whom he came into contact; and

Whereas, in his personal life he also put into practice what he suggested to others that they do. His wife, Gloria, is a fine teacher at Newberry High School and each of their three children are successes in their own right in their chosen fields; and

Whereas, the loss of this outstanding man at the age of sixty-one is a loss for his family, for his many friends, and for the Newberry County educational system; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to extend their heartfelt condolences to his wife, children, family, and friends in this time of sorrow. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly hereby express their very deepest sympathy to the family of Mr. Willie Scott, Sr., Assistant Principal of Newberry High School, who died tragically in a boating accident earlier this month.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his wife, Mrs. Gloria Scott.
