A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 44-96-215 SO AS TO PROHIBIT THE SALE OF DISPOSABLE DIAPERS UNLESS THE DIAPERS ARE BIODEGRADABLE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 44-96-215. After July 1, 1993, no person shall sell or offer for sale disposable diapers unless the diapers are made of materials which are biodegradable. The department shall promulgate regulations to carry out this section."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
