A BILL

TO AMEND ACT 287 OF 1989 RELATING TO THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE HORRY COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION, SO AS TO EXTEND THE TERM OF A BOARD MEMBER.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Section 1(B) of Act 287 of 1989 is amended to read:

"(B) In the 1992 general election, in addition to the successors to the members elected to the board in the 1990 election from districts 8, 9, and 11, one member must also be elected to the board from districts 4 and 5 by the qualified electors of each respective district for terms of four years and until each successor is elected and qualifies. The successors to the members elected in 1990 and 1992 must be elected in the same manner at the general election every two or four years thereafter for terms of four years. The present member of the board who is a representative of district 6 but due to redistricting is now a resident of district 8 and whose current term expires in 1994 shall continue to serve as a member of the board until the expiration of the term."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
