A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 56-5-5395 SO AS TO PROVIDE FOR THE ISSUANCE OF A DUPLICATE MOTOR VEHICLE INSPECTION STICKER BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION TO REPLACE A DESTROYED STICKER AND TO PROVIDE FOR THE METHOD OF APPLYING FOR THE DUPLICATE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Article 37, Chapter 5, Title 56 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 56-5-5395. If a valid vehicle inspection sticker is lost or defaced during its term, the South Carolina Department of Highways and Public Transportation, upon application by the vehicle owner, shall issue a duplicate sticker valid for the remainder of the term of the original sticker. The application must be in a form approved by the department and contain the information the department requires for the proper enforcement of this section."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
