A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 56-5-4670, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO PERMISSIBLE FOG LAMPS ON MOTOR VEHICLES, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THESE FOG LAMPS MUST BE DIMMED, IF A DIMMING DEVICE IS AFFIXED, OR TURNED OFF, IF THE VEHICLE HAS AUXILIARY LIGHTING, WITHIN ONE HUNDRED FEET OF ANY APPROACHING VEHICLE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Section 56-5-4670 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"Section 56-5-4670. Any motor vehicle may be equipped with not to exceed two fog lamps mounted on the front at a height of not less than twelve inches nor more than thirty inches above the level surface upon which the vehicle stands and so aimed that, when the vehicle is not loaded, none of the high-intensity portion of the light to the left of the center of the vehicle shall at a distance of twenty-five feet ahead project higher than a level of four inches below the level of the center of the lamp from which it comes.

These fog lamps must be dimmed, if a dimming device is affixed, or turned off, if the vehicle has auxiliary lighting, within one hundred feet of any approaching vehicle."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
