A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

COMMENDING DR. R. BROOKS SCURRY AND DR. JOHN "JACK" SCURRY FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING DEVELOPMENT OF STONEY POINT GOLF CLUB IN GREENWOOD COUNTY -- A RECREATIONAL GEM FOR THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Stoney Point Golf Club in Greenwood County opened in November, 1990, and has come a long way since then thanks to the efforts of brothers Dr. R. Brooks Scurry and Dr. John "Jack" Scurry; and

Whereas, in less than two years, Stoney Point has gained a professional golf tournament for Greenwood and has also been added to the cycle of Greenwood County Amateur Golf Tournament sites, hosting the event in 1993; and

Whereas, Greenwood County's newest and fourth 18-hole golf course is playing host this spring to the T.C. Jordan Professional Golf Tour's Velux Classic -- this being the season opener for the Jordan Tour, which has seventeen stops this year; and

Whereas, the Lake Greenwood site was previously the farmland of Brooks and Jack Scurry and is intended to be an outstanding residential golf community; and

Whereas, the doctor brothers, who still own the land, are familiar with golf communities; they, along with former Stoney Point executive vice president Bill Gregory, are three of the original founders and developers of Palmetto Dunes on Hilton Head Island; and

Whereas, Brooks and Jack Scurry have worked wonders with Stoney Point, and today the golf club has become a major element in the recreational charm, allure, and success of this part of the State; and

Whereas, the Scurry brothers are to be commended for their vision, determination, hard work, and success in making Stoney Point great for Greenwood and the State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commends Dr. R. Brooks Scurry and Dr. John "Jack" Scurry for their outstanding development of Stoney Point Golf Club in Greenwood County -- a recreational gem for the State of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. R. Brooks Scurry and Dr. John "Jack" Scurry.
