A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 44-7-75 SO AS TO REQUIRE HOSPITALS TO DISPLAY A LIST OF THEIR STANDARD CHARGES AND TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 44-7-75. (A) A hospital as defined in Section 44-7-130 shall display prominently in a conspicuous place in the main entrance to the hospital a list of its standard charges and fees.

(B) A hospital violating this section is subject to a fine of five thousand dollars."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect three months after approval by the Governor.
