A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE HONORABLE LEDELL STEELE OF LANCASTER FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AS CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF LANCASTER COUNTY'S DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES UPON HIS RETIREMENT FROM THIS POSITION AFTER ELEVEN YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE.

Whereas, the members of the Senate have learned with regret that the Honorable Ledell Steele will be retiring from the Board of the Lancaster County Department of Social Services on April 19, 1991, after eleven years of dedicated service. He has served as board chairman since February of 1984, and has provided outstanding leadership to the board and the department during that time; and

Whereas, Ledell Steele served five terms as mayor of the City of Lancaster. He has also served as past master of the Jackson Masonic Lodge in 1950, secretary of the Jackson Masonic Lodge for forty years (1950-1990), past potentate of Hejaz Temple in 1970, member of the board of directors of First Palmetto Savings and Loan, and is current treasurer of the Lancaster Commandre; and

Whereas, he has been a great help to the citizens of Lancaster County through his other civic and community activities, and through his long career as a successful leader of the business community; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and commend this outstanding South Carolinian for his many contributions to his city, county, and State in many varied capacities and especially for his service as chairman of the Lancaster County Department of Social Services upon his retirement from this office. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate hereby commend the Honorable Ledell Steele of Lancaster for his distinguished service as chairman of the board of Lancaster County's Department of Social Services upon his retirement from this position after eleven years of outstanding service.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Steele.
