A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO HONOR THE UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS RESERVES OF DELTA COMPANY, 8TH BATTALION WHO LED THE FIRST ATTACK AGAINST THE IRAQI AGGRESSORS AND VALIANTLY CRUSHED AND OVERWHELMED THE HEAVILY ENTRENCHED OPPOSING FORCES DURING OPERATION DESERT STORM.

Whereas, the Marines of 8th Battalion, Delta Company answered their country's call to duty on November 18, 1990, with unyielding loyalty in the finest tradition of the United States Marine Corps; and

Whereas, the Marines have endured great hardship and sacrifice to thwart the naked aggression and tyranny of Saddam Hussein and preserved the ideals the American people hold dear; and

Whereas, the Marines of Delta Company were deployed in a combat role and attached to the First Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment in Saudi Arabia; and

Whereas, the Marines of Delta Company cleared the way through the Iraqi fortifications and mine fields in the initial assault on the Iraqi defenses in the liberation of Kuwait City; and

Whereas, the Marines of Delta Company distinguished themselves in Marine Corps fashion by being the first to fight and by fighting with an unopposable and unmatched ferocity; and

Whereas, the Marines and their allies successfully liberated the Kuwaiti people and delivered one of the most crushing military defeats in history; and

Whereas, the Marines gallantly remained in hostile territory as peace keeping forces to preserve the cease fire and protect the Kuwaiti people until shortly before their homecoming on April 22, 1991. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly and the people of South Carolina are proud of our Marine Reserves for upholding the Marine Corps tradition in unselfishly and courageously serving the United States. These Marines are worthy of our highest honor and respect for their essential role in Operation Desert Storm. Clearly, these Marines are always faithful. Semper Fidelis.
