A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 16-7-180 SO AS TO PROHIBIT NOISE IN EXCESS OF SIXTY DECIBELS IN RESIDENTIAL AREAS AND TO PROVIDE PENALTIES.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 16-7-180. A person who emits or causes noise in excess of sixty decibels within one hundred feet of a residence is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, must be imprisoned not more than one year or fined not more than one thousand dollars or both."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
