EXPRESSING THE SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS OF THE LATE S. GRAYSON HARTGROVE, SR., OF COLUMBIA IN RICHLAND COUNTY.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were deeply saddened to learn of the death of S. Grayson Hartgrove, Sr., of Columbia, on November 12, 1992; and
Whereas, Mr. Hartgrove, chief executive officer for Floral Art Center, Inc., and long-time member of the Midlands Florist Association, played an active role in the life of his church and community, serving for forty-nine years as Scoutmaster with Epworth Children's Home, and earning the accolade "Volunteer of the Year" and receiving the coveted Silver Beaver Award; and
Whereas, Mr. Hartgrove was a member of the Columbia Breakfast Optimist Club and was associated with the Optimist Club for forty-eight years and was active in the Columbia Jazz Society; and
Whereas, his service extended to his long membership in the Shandon Presbyterian Church, where he had served loyally as a deacon; and
Whereas, Mr. Hartgrove's community activities extended to his active membership in the Richland County Republican Party, where he held the first Republican precinct meeting for Richland County Ward 14, and served as a poll worker in that ward; and
Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations so that they might note the passing of so distinguished a South Carolinian, a man who in his life and work was a splendid example of service to his community and State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly extend sympathy to the family and many friends of the late S. Grayson Hartgrove, Sr., of Columbia in Richland County.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Peggy Bowman Hartgrove.
