TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SENATE TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS OF MRS. SYLVIA SAGER SCHWARTZ OF AIKEN WHO DIED SATURDAY, JANUARY 22, 1994.
Whereas, Mrs. Sylvia Sager Schwartz of Aiken died Saturday, January 22, 1994; and
Whereas, a native of New York City, Mrs. Schwartz was a daughter of the late Edward and Jeanette Lustgarten Sager. She lived in Aiken since 1964 and was a South Carolina resident since 1950; and
Whereas, she was retired in 1985 as office manager at Southeastern Tool Co. and was a long-time civic and political leader in the Aiken community; and
Whereas, Mrs. Schwartz served in various Democratic Party offices including as a member of the executive committee, former co-chairperson of the Aiken County Democratic Party, and delegate to the state and national party conventions; and
Whereas, she contributed to the reform of the South Carolina Democratic Party and was a former member of the South Carolina State Election Commission, serving under Governor Dick Riley; and
Whereas, Mrs. Schwartz was a member of the board of directors of the Aiken County Community Action Commission and a member and supporter of the National Organization of Women. She was a member of Congregation Adas Yeshurun and a past president and vice president of the Aiken Hadassah Sisterhood; and
Whereas, survivors include her widower, Robert Schwartz of Aiken; a son, A. Larry Schwartz of Conway; three daughters, Leona S. Yonge of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, Barbara S. Cheatham of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Julia Schwartz Tucker of Isle of Palms; and five grandchildren. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate express their deepest sympathy to family and many friends of Mrs. Sylvia Sager Schwartz of Aiken who died Saturday, January 22, 1994.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Mrs. Schwartz.
