TO AMEND SECTION 40-67-30, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO CREATION OF THE BOARD OF EXAMINERS IN SPEECH PATHOLOGY AND AUDIOLOGY, SO AS TO REVISE THE NAME OF THE BOARD; TO AMEND SECTION 40-67-80, RELATING TO MEMBERSHIP ON THE BOARD, SO AS TO PROVIDE FOR TWO SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGISTS ON THE BOARD RATHER THAN TWO SPEECH PATHOLOGISTS AND TO PROVIDE THAT NOMINATION FOR BOARD APPOINTMENT MUST BE MADE ONLY FOR THE SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST AND AUDIOLOGIST POSITIONS; AND TO REAUTHORIZE THE STATE BOARD OF EXAMINERS IN SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY AND AUDIOLOGY FOR SIX YEARS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 40-67-30 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:
"Section 40-67-30. There is hereby created a State Board of Examiners in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology which shall administer this chapter."
SECTION 2. Section 40-67-80 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:
"Section 40-67-80. The board shall consist consists of six members: two speech-language pathologists, two audiologists, one otolaryngologist and one lay member. Each speech-language pathologist, audiologist, and the otolaryngologist must hold active and valid licenses in this State. All members shall must be appointed by the Governor. Nominations for appointment to the board shall must be received by the Governor from any group, individual, or association. Terms shall be are for four years and until a successor has been appointed and qualifies. No member may succeed himself. The South Carolina Speech and Hearing Association must submit lists of nominations consisting of four names for each board position of the speech-language pathologist and audiologist positions on the board."
SECTION 3. In accordance with Section 1-20-60 of the 1976 Code, the existence of the State Board of Examiners in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology is reauthorized for six years.
SECTION 4. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
