A SENATE RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING AND CONGRATULATING FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF SPARTANBURG ON ITS ONE HUNDRED FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY AND WISHING MANY MORE YEARS OF HAPPINESS AND SUCCESS FOR THIS OUTSTANDING CONGREGATION.

Whereas, First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg observed its one hundred fiftieth anniversary the weekend of October 30-31, 1993; and

Whereas, First Presbyterian Church was organized in 1843 with eight members and has grown to a congregation of 2,250 members; and

Whereas, First Presbyterian Church has been the mother church for four other Presbyterian churches in the Spartanburg area; and

Whereas, First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg has had a strong tradition of mission and service in its community for one hundred fifty years; and

Whereas, the church has helped make possible to the community such continuing services as Mobile Meals, The Shepherd's Center, Habitat for Humanity, The Irish Children's Program for Peace, and St. Luke's Free Medical Clinic; and

Whereas, the members of the congregation of First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg are caring and concerned for their fellow human beings and practice their beliefs on a daily basis. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognizes and congratulates First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg on its one hundred fiftieth anniversary and wishes many more years of happiness and success for this outstanding congregation.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg.
