A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING DR. WARREN H. ABERNATHY, SENIOR ADMINISTRATIVE AIDE IN THE UNITED STATES SENATE, UPON RECEIVING THE HONORARY DOCTOR OF HUMANE LETTERS DEGREE FROM VOORHEES COLLEGE.

Whereas, Warren Henry Abernathy, an outstanding career public servant, was presented the Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree by Voorhees College in September, 1992; and

Whereas, Dr. Abernathy is senior administrative aide in the United States Senate, having joined the staff of Senator Strom Thurmond in 1955; and

Whereas, Dr. Abernathy serves as Senator Thurmond's Home State Manager in charge of offices in Aiken, Florence, Charleston, and Columbia and also serves as secretary-treasurer of the Strom Thurmond Foundation, which assists needy, worthy students in continuing their education; and

Whereas, his concern for others has long been recognized and applauded and has been consistently reflected in his excellent work in behalf of others over many years; and

Whereas, the honorary degree he has received from Voorhees College is greatly deserved and merits recognition and congratulations by the General Assembly on behalf of all the citizens of this State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring: That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates Dr. Warren H. Abernathy, senior administrative aide in the United States Senate, upon receiving the Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Voorhees College.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Warren H. Abernathy.
