TO AMEND RULE 1.9 RULES OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES RELATING TO APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO COMMITTEES BY THE SPEAKER, SO AS TO REQUIRE THAT A CHAIRMAN AND OTHER OFFICERS OF A COMMITTEE MAY NOT BE ELECTED SOONER THAN TWENTY-FOUR HOURS AFTER THE SPEAKER HAS APPOINTED THE MEMBERS OF A COMMITTEE.
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
SECTION 1. Rule 1.9 of the House of Representatives is amended to read:
"Rule 1.9 All committees shall must be appointed by the Speaker, unless otherwise provided for by law, except Senatorial and Gubernatorial appointees and ex officio members of the House. The Speaker shall name the members constituting each committee in alphabetical order, and the Chairman shall must be elected by the several committees. The committee may at its discretion elect a Vice-Chairman and such other officers as it may choose. No chairman, Vice-Chairman, or other officer may be elected by a committee sooner than twenty-four hours after the Speaker has appointed the members of a committee."
