TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 56-9-505 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT WHEN A PERSON'S DRIVER'S LICENSE HAS BEEN SUSPENDED FOR POINTS, THE PERSON SHALL NOT BE REQUIRED TO FURNISH PROOF OF RESPONSIBILITY UNDER SECTION 56-9-550 FOR A PERIOD EXCEEDING THREE YEARS FOLLOWING THE DATE OF THE TERMINATION OF THE SUSPENSION.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 56-9-505. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a person whose driver's license has been suspended because of points in accordance with Section 56-1-740 shall not be required to furnish proof of financial responsibility under Section 56-9-550 for a period longer than three years following the date of the termination of the period of suspension. After such date, the person shall incur no further obligation to furnish the proof of financial responsibility required by Section 56-9-550 because of the suspension, regardless of whether his license has yet been reinstated."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
