A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 31-1-60 SO AS TO REQUIRE THAT STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES AND POLITICAL SUBDIVISIONS HOLDING TITLE TO AND DISPOSING OF RESIDENTIAL REAL PROPERTY SET ASIDE AT LEAST TWENTY PERCENT OF THIS PROPERTY FOR PURCHASE BY PUBLIC OR PRIVATE NONPROFIT CORPORATIONS PROVIDING HOUSING TO VERY LOW AND LOWER INCOME HOUSEHOLDS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 31-1-60. A State or local governmental agency and any political subdivision that has title to and disposes of real property used or suitable for residential purposes shall set aside at least twenty percent of this property for purchase by public or private nonprofit corporations providing housing for very low to lower income households as defined in Section 31-13-410."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
