A HOUSE RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AT THE DEATH OF MR. O'NEAL JOHNSON OF COLUMBIA AND EXTENDING SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, Mr. O'Neal Johnson of Columbia passed away on January 16, 1993, at the age of eighty; and

Whereas, Mr. Johnson was born in Edgefield County, was a retired carpenter, and was a music teacher for gospel and jubilee choirs throughout the State of South Carolina; and

Whereas, he was a member and deacon of Darion Baptist Church and choir leader of Union Hill Baptist Church of Salley, Bethlehem Baptist Church of College Place in Richland County, and St. John Baptist Church of Columbia; and

Whereas, he was the father of the Reverend Dr. Ed F. Johnson of Greenwood, president of the Baptist Education and Missionary Convention of South Carolina; and

Whereas, Mr. O'Neal Johnson was an outstanding individual who was much admired for his talents and many contributions to communities across South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, express sorrow at the death of Mr. O'Neal Johnson of Columbia and extend sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Johnson's widow, Mrs. Sallie Gray Johnson, 5727 Seabury Street, Columbia, and to his granddaughter, Ms. Juanzena L. Johnson, in care of South Carolina Legal Services Association, P.O. Box 7187, Columbia, 29202.
