AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 30-5-10, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO REGISTERS OF MESNE CONVEYANCES, SO AS TO ADD PICKENS COUNTY TO THE LIST OF COUNTIES WHICH HAVE A REGISTER OF MESNE CONVEYANCES; AND TO AMEND SECTION 30-5-12, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE APPOINTMENT OF REGISTERS OF MESNE CONVEYANCES, SO AS TO ADD PICKENS COUNTY TO THE LIST OF COUNTIES WHICH SHALL APPOINT THE REGISTER OF MESNE CONVEYANCES FOR ITS COUNTY PURSUANT TO THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS AS IT MAY AGREE UPON.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Pickens County Register of Mesne Conveyances

SECTION 1. Section 30-5-10 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"Section 30-5-10. In every county in the State other than Aiken, Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Dorchester, Greenville, Lexington, Orangeburg, Pickens, Richland, Spartanburg, and Sumter the duties prescribed by law for the register of mesne conveyances must be performed by the clerk of court who has all the powers and emoluments given the register of mesne conveyances in Aiken, Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Dorchester, Greenville, Lexington, Orangeburg, Pickens, Richland, Spartanburg, and Sumter counties. The registers of mesne conveyances in Berkeley and Dorchester counties are elected for terms of four years and until a successor is elected in the general election and qualifies."

Appointment of Register of Mesne Conveyances

SECTION 2. Section 30-5-12 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"Section 30-5-12. The governing body of Beaufort, Horry, Orangeburg, and Pickens counties shall appoint the register of mesne conveyances for its county under terms and conditions as it may agree upon."

Time effective

SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon approval by the Governor; however, the term of office of the Register of Mesne Conveyances for Pickens County shall begin July 1, 1993.
