A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 20-7-653 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT AN INTERVIEW AND FAMILY ASSESSMENT MUST BE CONDUCTED AT THE BIRTH OF A CHILD AND THAT REFERRAL, CASE MANAGEMENT, AND MONITORING THE FAMILY MUST BE PROVIDED.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 20-7-653. At the time of birth every mother must be interviewed and a family assessment completed including referrals for needed services. The agency conducting the interview and making the assessment shall provide monitoring, case management, and referral service to the family."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
