TO CONGRATULATE ORANGE GROVE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN CHARLESTON ON BEING CHOSEN A REGIONAL WINNER OF THE PALMETTO'S FINEST AWARD.
Whereas, each year the South Carolina Association of Elementary and Middle School Principals sponsor a contest where three schools receive a state award and five schools receive a regional award; and
Whereas, a principal must be a member of the association for the school to be nominated for the contest; and
Whereas, the comprehensive application, reviewed by six judges, examines student development, student achievement, the faculty, staff education and expertise, instruction, leadership by the principal, instructional programs, community involvement, and school management; and
Whereas, twenty-five schools were nominated and visited by judging teams, which included members from the principal's association from six districts, an assistant principal, a representative from the Governor's office, and a higher education representative, who interviewed parents, teachers, students, and administrative staff, and who reviewed test scores and observed classes; and
Whereas, one of the judging considerations is the "school gain index" in which each public school is judged according to the standardized test scores and if students do as well as the State predicts, the score is zero and if they do better, there is a gain in the score; and
Whereas, Orange Grove Elementary School in Charleston was ranked at the 98th percentile; and
Whereas, the school was chosen as a regional winner of the Palmetto's Finest Award; and
Whereas, principal Pat King believes the award honors the students and the teachers for their hard work and the parents for their support and involvement; and
Whereas, Orange Grove is proud of the high scholastic achievement and emphasis on personal development, staff enthusiasm, and support. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly congratulate Orange Grove Elementary School in Charleston on being chosen a regional winner of the Palmetto's Finest Award.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Pat King, Principal.
