TO CONGRATULATE MS. NOVICE S. WALKER OF SUMMERTON, SOUTH CAROLINA, FOR RECEIVING THE OLIN D. JOHNSTON AWARD FOR BEING SELECTED AS THE SOUTH CAROLINA POSTMASTER OF THE YEAR.
Whereas, Novice S. Walker of Summerton has been selected Postmaster of the Year by the South Carolina National Association of Postmasters of the United States (NAPUS) having received the Olin D. Johnston Award; and
Whereas, the Olin D. Johnston Award is an annual award given to the Postmaster judged to have made the most outstanding contributions to NAPUS, to the United States Postal Service, and to the Postmaster's community; and
Whereas, Ms. Walker is a graduate of Ruffin High School and received an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Secretarial Science from Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College, she graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration from South Carolina State University; and
Whereas, Ms. Walker began her career with the Postal Service in Orangeburg and has served as Officer In Charge in Eutawville, South Carolina, and in Sylva, North Carolina, and is presently Postmaster in Summerton, South Carolina; and
Whereas, since she was commissioned Postmaster at Summerton, she has been assigned additional duties including trainer of new postmasters and officers in charge, transfer official of post office accountabilities, and Columbia District Audit Team member; and
Whereas, Ms. Walker has served the National Association of Postmasters of the United States in a variety of positions and is very active in service to her community including membership on Scott's Branch 76 Foundation Board, the Clarendon County Planning and Public Service Commission, a life member of NAACP, a member of Ruth Chapter #22, Order of Easter Star, and a member of the Red Root United Methodist Church; and
Whereas, Ms. Walker further serves her country as a captain in the United States Army Reserves and served in Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. She is currently studying Command General and Staff College in the United States Reserves. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina congratulates Ms. Novice S. Walker of Summerton, South Carolina, for receiving the Olin D. Johnston Award as South Carolina Postmaster of the Year.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Novice S. Walker.
