TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 53-3-120 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE MONTH OF MAY EACH YEAR IS DESIGNATED AS "SOUTHERN HISTORY MONTH" IN SOUTH CAROLINA, AND TO PROVIDE THAT THE GOVERNOR SHALL ISSUE PROCLAMATIONS AS HE CONSIDERS APPROPRIATE TO COMMEMORATE "SOUTHERN HISTORY MONTH" AND TO CALL ON STATE AND LOCAL AGENCIES, INSTITUTIONS, AND ENTITIES AS WELL AS PRIVATE CITIZENS TO HONOR AND OBSERVE "SOUTHERN HISTORY MONTH".
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 53-3-120. The month of May each year is designated as `Southern History Month' in South Carolina. The Governor shall issue proclamations as he considers appropriate to commemorate `Southern History Month' and to call on state and local agencies, institutions, and entities as well as private citizens to honor and observe `Southern History Month'."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
