A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 1-30-10, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO DEPARTMENTS CREATED UNDER THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH OF GOVERNMENT AND APPOINTMENT OF DEPARTMENT HEADS, SO AS TO REMOVE THE PROVISION PROHIBITING THE INTERIM DIRECTOR OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY FROM BEING APPOINTED AS THE PERMANENT DIRECTOR.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Section 1-30-10(F)(4) of the 1976 Code, as added by Section 1, Act 181 of 1993, is amended to read:

"(4) Notwithstanding provisions of (2) and (3) to the contrary, the initial interim director of the Department of Public Safety shall must be appointed by the Budget and Control Board and such initial interim director must not be appointed as the permanent director of the department by the Governor."

SECTION 2. Upon approval by the Governor this act takes effect January 1, 1994.
