CONGRATULATING THE TROJANS OF NORTHWESTERN HIGH SCHOOL OF ROCK HILL ON WINNING THE 1993 STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP IN CLASS AAAA, DIVISION I.
Whereas, the Trojans of Northwestern High School defeated Gaffney High School by a score of 2-0 on Decembr 4, 1993, to win the 1993 state football championship in Class AAAA, Division I; and
Whereas, the state title game was played at Frank Howard Field at Memorial Stadium in Clemson; and
Whereas, the Trojans of Northwestern High, in edging Gaffney, secured their second state football crown, the other was in 1989; and
Whereas, the Trojans completed the 1993 campaign with a superb 14-1 overall record, reflecting the genuine hard work, dedication, talent, and unity of this outstanding team of scholar-athletes; and
Whereas, the 1993 Trojans football roster included the following young men: Darron Perry, Tim Jones, P.J. Jennings, Antwain Lumpkin, Caliph Alexander, Arthur McCoy, Rogdricus Neely, Richard Allen, Jade Templeton, Chris McFadden, Marcus Long, Jay Thompson, Marques Steele, James Biggers, Eric Westbrook, Ian White, Dee Feaster, Tedrick Wylie, Paul Lindsey, Snoopy Pendergrass, B.J. Epps, Markis Leaks, David Hartman, C.B. Boger, Curt Mattes, Curtis Wilmore, Adam Scull, Torrence Giles, Wanto Wherry, Stephen Blanks, Bryant Talford, Chris Swanger, Chas Crawford, Coleman Young, Jason Laney, Demond Perry, Jerrod Holley, Chris Dixon, Marcus Mayes, Brad Harrison, Jon-Michael Black, Benny Peoples, Brian McLaughlin, Troy Mills, William Feely, William Baxter, Moe Hinson, Jay Spears, Bobby Hardin, Tony Aldridge, Quinton Killian, and Terrence Miller; and
Whereas, the head coach of the team is Jimmy Wallace and the assistant coaches include Billy Stockdale, Bobby Carroll, Thomas Ray, Tom Turner, John Barrett, James Blake, David Pierce, David Sweem, Wayne McIntosh, and Ozzie Ahl; and
Whereas, the citizens of Rock Hill and all of York County were delighted with the Trojans' 1993 state title, and the team has made delegation members, Senators Wes Hayes, Greg Gregory, Linda Short, and Harvey Peeler, and Representatives Gary Simrill, Becky Meacham, Herb Kirsh, Bessie Moody-Lawrence, Greg Delleney, and DeWitt McCraw, exceptionally proud; and
Whereas, the General Assembly is pleased to have this opportunity to recognize the Trojans of Northwestern High School and to salute them for their outstanding accomplishments. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates the Trojans of Northwestern High School of Rock Hill on winning the 1993 state football championship in Class AAAA, Division I.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Trojan football team of Northwestern High School, in care of Head Coach Jimmy Wallace.
