A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE MS. FRANCES LORRAINE PARIS OF NEWBERRY FOR FORTY-FOUR YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE NEWBERRY PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM AS DIRECTOR OF INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC.

Whereas, Ms. Frances Lorraine Paris of Newberry has been Director of Instrumental Music in the Newberry public school system for forty-four years; and

Whereas, the accomplishments of the Newberry High School Band during her tenure have been outstanding. These accomplishments include:

(1) the band has entered the South Carolina Concert Band Festival forty-three of the past forty-four years, earning forty-one superior or excellent ratings;

(2) the band has earned the Outstanding Performance Award, the highest award given by the South Carolina Band Directors Association, eighteen out of the twenty years it has been offered;

(3) the band has entered each South Carolina marching festival\contest since its inception in 1959, receiving a superior or excellent rating at each contest and winning the Class AAA championship in 1974;

(4) the band has participated in the Cherry Blossom, DeSoto, and Daytona Beach Music Festivals, and has appeared in the Mardi Gras Parade in New Orleans nine times; and

(5) the band has had at least one representative in the South Carolina All-State Band for each of the forty-two years of participation; and

Whereas, one of her former students was selected for the prestigious McDonald's All-American Band, and three former students have received the South Carolina Phi Beta Mu Outstanding Bandsman Award; and

Whereas, Ms. Paris has received the Newberry Star Teacher Award, the Newberry High School Bulldog Award, Teacher of the Year Award, the Outstanding Bandmaster Award from W.B.D.N.A., the Outstanding Contributor Award from Phi Beta Mu, and the Career Service Award from the American School Band Director's Association; and

Whereas, Ms. Paris is a source of pride for her school, her community, and the State of South Carolina; and

Whereas, she is beloved by her many former students who have benefited from her intelligence and from her dedication to helping others; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and thank this truly lovely lady for her contributions to the educational system of Newberry County. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate Ms. Frances Lorraine Paris of Newberry for forty-four years of dedicated service to the Newberry public school system as Director of Instrumental Music.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Paris.
