TO COMMEND THE GOVERNOR AND OTHERS FOR THEIR LEADERSHIP IN ATTRACTING TOURISTS, RETIREES, AND NEW BUSINESSES TO THE STATE; TO REAFFIRM THE COMMITMENT OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO CONTINUE TO IMPROVE THE ATTRACTIVENESS AND IMAGE OF THE STATE AND TO REAFFIRM ITS DESIRE TO PROVIDE THE LEADERSHIP OF THE STATE WITH THE RESOURCES NEEDED TO SHOW THAT SOUTH CAROLINA IS UNWAVERING IN ITS COMMITMENT TO PROTECT AND ENHANCE THE STATE'S NATURAL RESOURCES AND QUALITY OF LIFE.
Whereas, South Carolina is known throughout the nation and the world as the location of smiling faces and beautiful places; and
Whereas, South Carolina's tourism industry is rapidly becoming the state's largest industry in terms of jobs and economic benefit for the citizens of South Carolina; and
Whereas, the growth of retirement communities and the general influx of retirees to South Carolina is of tremendous present and future benefit for the economy of South Carolina; and
Whereas, a major reason for the location of new businesses in South Carolina is the quality of life available in the Palmetto State; and
Whereas, South Carolina's beautiful beaches, freshwater rivers, glistening lakes, pristine mountains, scenic countryside, picturesque towns and cities, attractive highways, clean air and water, unspoiled marshlands, friendly people, varied entertainment, breathtaking fauna and flora, abundant hunting and fishing opportunities, excellent cuisine and delicious seafood, numerous recreational options, bountiful shellfish, diligent preservation of its history and its natural resources, moderate climate, and overall healthy lifestyle all contribute to making the Palmetto State a place where outsiders want to be. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commends the Governor of South Carolina, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, and the Department of Commerce for their excellent leadership in attracting tourists, retirees, and new businesses to the State of South Carolina.
Reaffirms its commitment to do everything in its power to continue and improve the attractiveness and image of our State to tourists, retirees, and new businesses and to elevate the quality of life for all our citizens, to comply with the current legal schedule for discontinuing acceptance of radioactive waste from states across the entire nation, and to ensure that the Palmetto State will forever be known the world throughout best and foremost for its smiling faces and beautiful places.
Reaffirms its desire to provide the elected and appointed leaders of South Carolina with all the resources within its power needed to show the people of the nation and the world that South Carolina is unwavering in its commitment to protection and enhancement of the state's natural resources and quality of life.
Expresses its gratitude to the hospitality, retirement, commercial, industrial, and agricultural sectors of South Carolina's economy for a job well done.
And extends special appreciation to the members of the South Carolina Hospitality Association, South Carolina Tourism Council, South Carolina Restaurant Association, South Carolina United Way, and South Carolina Keep America Beautiful.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Governor, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, the Department of Commerce, the South Carolina Hospitality Association, the South Carolina Tourism Council, the South Carolina Restaurant Association, the South Carolina United Way, and South Carolina Keep America Beautiful.
