A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING ERVIN S. DUGGAN, FORMERLY OF CLARENDON COUNTY, ON BEING SELECTED AS PRESIDENT AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF THE PUBLIC BROADCASTING SERVICE.

Whereas, Ervin S. Duggan, a former resident of Manning in Clarendon County, has been selected as the president and chief executive officer of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS); and

Whereas, Mr. Duggan was a member of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for the past three years, a post for which he was nominated by President Bush; and

Whereas, as a member of the FCC, Mr. Duggan was an advocate of continued federal funding for public broadcasting and creating free, independent, and private systems of broadcasting in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union; and

Whereas, he has had a distinguished career in journalism, telecommunications, and public service and is an excellent choice to head PBS; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly wish him well in this new post and are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize and congratulate him. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates Ervin S. Duggan, formerly of Clarendon County, on being selected as president and chief executive officer of the Public Broadcasting Service.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Duggan.
