TO COMMEND MR. CECIL WILLIAMS, INTERNATIONALLY KNOWN PHOTOGRAPHER FOR HIS PHOTO DOCUMENTARY WORK ON THE CIVIL RIGHTS ERA "FOR FREEDOM AND JUSTICE" AND THE SHOWING OF HIS WORKS IN THE SOUTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY EXHIBIT, "QUIET HEROES: A DOCUMENTATION OF THE CIVIL RIGHTS ERA FROM 1949 THROUGH THE PRESENT."
Whereas, Cecil Williams of Orangeburg County is an internationally known and published photographer; and
Whereas, fifty of Mr. Williams' works have been included in an exhibit, "Quiet Heroes: A Documentation of the Civil Rights Era from 1949 through the Present", which opened in mid-January at the I.P. Stanback Museum at South Carolina State University; and
Whereas, this South Carolina State exhibit is a prelude to a publication of Mr. Williams' which is currently in progress entitled "For Freedom and Justice" which will present more than two hundred of Williams' photo documentary works of the Civil Rights era; and
Whereas, Mr. Williams' ability to capture the essence and emotion of this era is unsurpassed; and
Whereas, this photo documentary work of Mr. Williams is a tribute to the many who have pursued the dreams and ideals of the Civil Rights movement. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, commend Mr. Cecil Williams, internationally known photographer for his photo documentary work on the Civil Rights era "For Freedom and Justice" and the showing of his works in the South Carolina State University exhibit, "Quiet Heroes: A Documentation of the Civil Rights Era from 1949 through the Present."
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Williams.
