TO DIRECT THE DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES TO COLLABORATE WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE AND TAXATION TO REVISE THE W-4 FORM TO CONTAIN INFORMATION RELATIVE TO CHILD SUPPORT OBLIGATIONS AND TO DEVELOP RECORD RETENTION PROCEDURES FOR CERTAIN INFORMATION.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. (A) To strengthen and promote the enforcement of child support and to maximize the amount of support collected, the Department of Social Services shall in conjunction with the Department of Revenue and Taxation revise the W-4 form to require an employee to state on the W-4 form whether the employee is under a court order to pay child support and develop procedures for obtaining these forms and retaining this information. However, the department only may retain this W-4 information if the department is responsible for establishing, enforcing, or collecting a support obligation or debt of the employee.
(B) For the next three years the department annually shall report to the House Ways and Means Committee and the Senate Finance Committee on its responsibilities and activities under this section.
SECTION 2. This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
