A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 56-7-60 SO AS TO PROHIBIT AN ELECTED OR APPOINTED OFFICIAL OF A STATE AGENCY, DEPARTMENT, OR INSTRUMENTALITY FROM USING HIS POSITION TO CANCEL, REVOKE, OR INFLUENCE THE RESULT IN ANY PROCEEDING REGARDING THE ISSUANCE OF A TRAFFIC TICKET UNDER SECTION 56-7-10.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 56-7-60. It is unlawful for an elected or appointed official of a state agency, department, or instrumentality to use his position to cancel, revoke, or influence the result in any proceeding regarding a traffic ticket issued under Section 56-7-10. A person who violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, must be imprisoned not more than three years. A person convicted under this section must forfeit his office."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
