A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF BEAUFORT FOR REACHING OVER HALF OF ITS $1.5 MILLION BUILDING FUND DRIVE AND COMMEND THE CLUB FOR THE IMPORTANT ROLE IT IS PLAYING IN THE LIVES AND FUTURES OF BEAUFORT'S YOUTH AND CHALLENGE THE CITIZENS OF BEAUFORT TO ASSIST IN REACHING THIS BUILDING FUND DRIVE.

Whereas, the Boys and Girls Club of Beaufort is embarking upon the last leg of a $1.5 million building fund drive to construct a 24,000 square foot facility which will allow them to double the two hundred plus "at risk" youth they serve daily and increase membership to one thousand children served; and

Whereas, through over fifty proven programs administered by a trained professional staff and many volunteers, the club strives to build hope, dignity, and self-esteem in each child; and

Whereas, the club helps prepare children for the future by promoting academics and assisting in developing a strong school work ethic, by teaching fair play and respect for others, through drug and alcohol education programs, and by teaching the importance of hygiene and nutrition; and

Whereas, through the programs conducted by the Boys and Girls Clubs and by providing these children with a wholesome, supportive, and stimulating environment, the club has positively impacted the lives of thousands of children and has helped to steer many into futures of hope and promise; and

Whereas, the Boys and Girls Club of Beaufort is an excellent example that government alone cannot solve all problems and that local grass roots organizations play a vital role in addressing community problems and in affecting the quality of life of local citizens; and

Whereas, the Boys and Girls Club of Beaufort has already raised $770,000 toward its $1.5 million goal which is an outstanding tribute to the program and to its integral place in the community of Beaufort; and

Whereas, while the club has reached more than half of its fund raising goal, the people of Beaufort are called to the challenge of meeting this goal with their pledges and making the new facility a reality. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, hereby congratulate the Boys and Girls club of Beaufort for reaching over half of its $1.5 million building fund drive and commend the club for the important role it is playing in the lives and futures of Beaufort's youth and and challenge the citizens of Beaufort to assist in reaching this building fund drive.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the President of the Board of Directors, the Chairman of the Building Fund Drive, and the Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Beaufort.
