A JOINT RESOLUTION

TO PROVIDE FOR AN EXPERIMENTAL RABBIT HUNTING SEASON IN GAME ZONES 1, 2, AND 4.

Amend Title To Conform

Whereas, the General Assembly finds that it is desirable to ascertain whether or not rabbits can be hunted with dogs, but not taken, at night during the regular rabbit season to allow rabbit hunters an opportunity to exercise and train their dogs; and

Whereas, the South Carolina Wildlife and Marine Resources Department has investigated the possibility of allowing an experimental season for hunting rabbits with dogs at night in Game Zones 1, 2, and 4 and has determined that an experimental season would not be harmful to the resource; and

Whereas, the General Assembly finds that an experimental season would serve the needs of rabbit hunters and be in keeping with the mandates that the Wildlife and Marine Resources Department manage and protect wildlife. Now, therefore,

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Beginning September 1, 1994, and expiring April 1, 1995, in addition to those seasons and times permitted in Section 50-11-120 of the 1976 Code, rabbits may be hunted with dogs, but not taken, in Game Zones 1 and 4 only, September first through January first on private lands only, between sunset and midnight and January second through March first between sunset and midnight on private lands and Wildlife Management Area lands.

SECTION 2. This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
