TO AMEND ACT 92 OF 1924, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO THE PARK COMMISSION FOR THE CITY OF FLORENCE, SO AS TO DECREASE THE MEMBERSHIP FROM SIXTEEN TO SEVEN AND TO PROVIDE FOR THEIR ELECTION AND STAGGERED TERMS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 2 of Act 912 of 1924, as last amended by Act 1268 of 1966, is further amended to read:
"Section 2. The commission shall be is composed of sixteen seven members, resident electors of the City of Florence, to be elected by the city council. Immediately upon the approval of this act the City Council of the City of Florence shall proceed to terminate the terms of office of the present members of the commission and to elect sixteen seven members of the park commission. After their election the members of the commission shall meet and organize by the election of one of their number as chairman and another as secretary. They shall then proceed to draw lots among themselves as to their respective terms of office, so that the terms of office of the sixteen seven original members shall commence on the date of their election and two shall expire one expires in one year, two one in two years, two one in three years, two one in four years, two one in five years, two one in six years, two and one in seven years and two in eight years. Thereafter, there shall be elected by city council each year two members must elect one member of the park commission each year to take the place of the members member whose terms term expired in such that year, and all such members so elected to the commission after the first election shall hold office for a term of eight years."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
