A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 7-3-10, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE STATE ELECTION COMMISSION, SO AS TO PROHIBIT A MEMBER OF THE COMMISSION FROM PARTICIPATING IN POLITICAL MANAGEMENT OR IN A POLITICAL CAMPAIGN DURING THE MEMBER'S TERM OF OFFICE, TO PROHIBIT A MEMBER OF THE COMMISSION FROM MAKING A CONTRIBUTION TO A CANDIDATE OR KNOWINGLY ATTEND A FUNDRAISER HELD FOR THE BENEFIT OF A CANDIDATE, AND TO PROVIDE THAT THE MEMBER MAY BE REMOVED FOR A VIOLATION OF THIS SECTION.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Section 7-3-10 of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 276 of 1992, is further amended by adding:

"(e) No member of the commission may participate in political management or in a political campaign during the member's term of office. No member of the commission may make a contribution to a candidate or knowingly attend a fundraiser held for the benefit of a candidate. Violation of this subsection subjects the commissioner to removal by the Governor."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
