TO CONGRATULATE MRS. BETTY J. LARK OF RICHLAND COUNTY UPON HER RETIREMENT AS AN EDUCATOR WITH RICHLAND COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT ONE JUNE 9, 1994, AND TO WISH HER GOOD HEALTH AND HAPPINESS IN HER RETIREMENT.

Whereas, on June 9, 1994, Betty J. Lark of Richland County is retiring from a career in education dedicated to enriching the lives of her students and to guiding them towards a more meaningful, promising future; and

Whereas, Mrs. Lark graduated with a bachelor of arts degree from Allen University and later received her master's degree in Counselor Education and Certification in Administration from the University of South Carolina; and

Whereas, she began her teaching career in Darlington, South Carolina, and in 1970 began her employment with Richland School District One; and

Whereas, during her twenty-four years with Richland School District One she has been a school administrator, classroom teacher, and guidance counselor; and

Whereas, Mrs. Lark will be leaving W. J. Keenan High School where she has been a guidance counselor for the past ten years; and

Whereas, while serving as a guidance counselor at Keenan High School she spearheaded an effort aimed at helping students who were at great risk for "falling through the cracks"; and

Whereas, through Mrs. Lark's leadership, a grant of $378,000 was awarded to the school for a program targeting this at-risk student population, an initiative later to be known as "Project GOAL" (Guided Opportunities for Achievement in Life); a program that is still thriving at Keenan and which has been duplicated at three other schools in Richland County School District One. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, hereby congratulate Mrs. Betty J.
