A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND MR. J. WILLIAM MARTIN OF COLUMBIA FOR HIS EXEMPLARY SERVICE TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS UPCOMING RETIREMENT.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly with regret have learned that Mr. J. William Martin of Columbia will be retiring on June 30, 1994, after over twenty-six years of service to the State of South Carolina in many capacities; and

Whereas, Mr. Martin is presently Associate Health Director of the Palmetto Health District of the Department of Health and Environmental Control and the clients and constituents the Palmetto District serves in the four county area of Richland, Lexington, Newberry, and Fairfield have benefited greatly from his efforts; and

Whereas, he has worked tirelessly on behalf of the health and welfare of both the adults and children served by his district and agency, and one example of the respect he has earned during his distinguished career is the fact that the Richland County Council has chosen to name the new Richland County Health Department facility as the "J. William Martin Health Center" in tribute to this fine man; and

Whereas, in addition to the excellent work he has done as a state employee, he has also served his county and state in a number of other ways through Rotary International, the United Way, other civic and community endeavors, and as a dedicated lay leader and officer of the Main Street United Methodist Church and as a district, state, and region delegate to United Methodist conferences; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and thank this outstanding South Carolinian for all he has done for the health and welfare of many of his fellow citizens upon the occasion of his retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly hereby commend Mr. J. William Martin of Columbia for his exemplary service to the State of South Carolina with the Department of Health and Environmental Control upon the occasion of his upcoming retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Martin.
