CONGRATULATING THE FORENSICS TEAM OF SOUTHSIDE HIGH SCHOOL OF GREENVILLE COUNTY ON ATTAINING STATUS AS THE STATE'S LEADING FORENSICS CHAPTER FOR 1994 IN THE NATIONAL FORENSICS LEAGUE.
Whereas, the Forensics Team of Southside High School of Greenville County is the State's leading forensics chapter for 1994 in the National Forensics league with three national qualifiers, Joey Hill, Matt Miller, and Patrick Doherty; and
Whereas, the Southside High School Forensics Team is listed in the "Top 200 Clubs" by Rostrum, the national publication for debate in the United States; and
Whereas, two varsity policy debaters received the first four-year scholarships in the five-year history of the team, Darren Albers and Chris Brockman, to McNeese State University, Lake Charles, Louisiana; and
Whereas, varsity Lincoln-Douglas debater Matt Miller is a national point leader, Wake Forest University Octafinalist, Isidore Newman Quarterfinalist, Glenbrooks Octafinalist, Stanford Round Robin Participant, State and district winner, and National Tournament Debater for two years; and
Whereas, varsity Lincoln-Douglas debater Patrick Doherty is an Isidore Newman Quarterfinalist, Harvard University Octafinalist, State and district winner, and National Qualifier, along with Joey Hill, first-place winner in original oratory, district tournament; and
Whereas, the Southside High School Forensics Team hosted its first debate/speech tournament, the Sampson-Smith-Robertson Tradition, on January 29, 1994, sponsored by the Parent Booster Club, Jerry and Marsha Miller, Co-presidents, Mr. Jerry Wasserman, Tournament Chair, Mrs. Sue Austin, Mrs. Geraldine Latimore, Mrs. Earnestine Leamon, and Mrs. Debra Jones, Concessions and Judges Lounge; and
Whereas, the Southside High School Forensics Team competed in ten local tournaments and nine national circuit tournaments and won two novice tournaments for the 1993-94 academic and competitive year; and
Whereas, the Forensics Team of Southside High School has clearly distinguished itself and is highly deserving of recognition. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulates the Forensics Team of Southside High School of Greenville County on attaining status as the State's leading forensics chapter for 1994 in the National Forensics League.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Forensics Team of Southside High School.
