TO CONGRATULATE SPECIALIST RAYMOND G. STRAWBRIDGE OF COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA, FOR BEING SELECTED AS THE SOLDIER OF THE YEAR FOR THE SOUTH CAROLINA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD AND FOR THE SECOND U.S. ARMY AND FORCES COMMAND AND FOR HIS OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA FOLLOWING HIS RETURN FROM ACTIVE DUTY IN DESERT SHIELD/DESERT STORM.
Whereas, Specialist Raymond G. Strawbridge, Jr., of Columbia, South Carolina, was selected as the Soldier of the Year in the South Carolina Army National Guard and then won the Second U.S. Army and Forces Command Soldier of the Year competition; and
Whereas, Specialist Strawbridge edged out the National Guard Soldiers of the Year from eight southeastern states, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands when selected as the Second U.S. Army and Forces Command Soldier of the Year; and
Whereas, Specialist Strawbridge was called to duty in Desert Shield/Desert Storm and since returning from duty he made the Dean's List in both semesters of his sophomore year and made the President's List in his last four semesters; and
Whereas, Specialist Strawbridge is a graduate of Columbia High School and a College of Criminal Justice graduate of the University of South Carolina, graduating magna cum laude with a grade point average of 3.795. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, hereby congratulate Specialist Raymond G. Strawbridge of Columbia, South Carolina, for being selected as the Soldier of the Year for the South Carolina Army National Guard and for the Second U.S. Army and Forces Command and for his outstanding academic performance at the University of South Carolina following his return from active duty in Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
