TO EXPRESS SORROW UPON THE DEATH OF ROBERT H. CHAPMAN, SR., OF SPARTANBURG, SOUTH CAROLINA, TEXTILE INDUSTRY LEADER, AND EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, Robert H. Chapman, Sr., of Spartanburg, South Carolina, died March 6, 1994, at the age of sixty-seven; and
Whereas, Mr. Chapman was an outstanding businessman and leader in the textile industry and made invaluable contributions to the State and his community as a civic leader; and
Whereas, he began his career in the textile industry in 1948 and joined Inman Mills of Spartanburg in 1960 serving until his death. He served as director and held many other offices in the company throughout his career; and
Whereas, among the many civic and professional associations of which Mr. Chapman was a member, he served as director of the Spartanburg and State Chambers of Commerce, and the South Carolina Textile Manufacturers Association, as a trustee of the Spartanburg Day School, as a member of the South Carolina Tax Study Commission, and on many national textile associations including serving as a member of the Board of Managers of the New York Cotton Exchange; and
Whereas, he was respected by all those who knew him as a man of integrity in his private and professional life; and
Whereas, with the death of this outstanding man, the people of Spartanburg and the State of South Carolina have lost a respected businessman, a civic and community leader, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and a good friend. He will be greatly missed. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, hereby express their sorrow upon the death of Robert H. Chapman, Sr., of Spartanburg, South Carolina, textile industry leader, and extend their deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Robert Chapman, 101 Montgomery Drive, Spartanburg, South Carolina.
