A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE ALBERT SEGARS FAMILY OF HARTSVILLE, SONOCO PRODUCTS COMPANY, LAKEVIEW CLUB, INC., MRS. KATHERINE SEGARS LEVEQUE, AND MRS. EVELYN BRITT FRANK FOR THEIR GENEROSITY IN DONATING A SUBSTANTIAL TRACT OF LAND IN DARLINGTON COUNTY TO THE HERITAGE TRUST PROGRAM.

Whereas, the Albert Segars Family, Sonoco Products Company, Lakeview Club, Inc., Mrs. Katherine Segars LeVeque, and Mrs. Evelyn Britt Frank have generously and selflessly given a tract of land of substantial value to the South Carolina Heritage Trust Program; and

Whereas, this tremendous contribution to our State will allow the Heritage Trust Program to further accomplish its goal of preserving South Carolina's environmentally significant and pristine natural areas which harbor endangered plant and animal species; and

Whereas, this 457 acre tract of land, known as the Segars Heritage Preserve, is especially valuable in that it contains five separate and distinct natural communities, ranging from lowland swamp to upland sandhill, and has never been used for farming, with minimal soil disturbance over generations, providing complete preservation of original ecosystems; and

Whereas, this generous gift is particularly significant to the community of Hartsville and citizens of Darlington County in that the property is adjacent to Kalmia Gardens, complementing and expanding these lovely gardens and grounds; and

Whereas, through this gift, the people of our State will forever be able to enjoy the dark and winding waters of Black Creek, the stately cypress swamp, the graceful flight and beautiful calls of its feathered inhabitants, and a natural beauty and peace so profound that it cannot be adequately described to those who have not seen it; and

Whereas, the people of South Carolina recognize that it is particularly meaningful to have individuals and organizations join together in such a gift that is indicative of their selfless spirit and generosity; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly by this resolution publicly recognize and thank each of these property owners for their contribution to the natural heritage of our State which will henceforth be preserved for future generations. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly hereby express their deep appreciation to the Albert Segars Family, Sonoco Products Company, Lakeview Club, Inc., Mrs. Katherine Segars LeVeque, and Mrs. Evelyn Britt Frank for their generosity in donating a substantial tract of land adjacent to Kalmia Gardens in Hartsville to the Heritage Trust Program.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Albert Segars Family, including Edward Kent Segars, Albert Lucas Segars, Jr., Mary Segars Nance, and Emily Fitchett Segars, and to Mrs. Evelyn Britt Frank, Mrs. Katherine Segars LeVeque, Sonoco Products Company, and the Lakeview Club, Inc.
