A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 44-17-310, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO VOLUNTARY ADMISSION TO A STATE HOSPITAL, SO AS TO INCREASE THE AGE FROM SIXTEEN TO EIGHTEEN YEARS OF AGE AND TO DELETE VOLUNTARY ADMISSION FOR THOSE UNDER SIXTEEN YEARS OF AGE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Section 44-17-310 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"Section 44-17-310. If in the judgment of the superintendent director of a state hospital the person is a proper subject for voluntary admission, the superintendent of a the hospital shall admit for treatment any an individual who is:

(1) Sixteen eighteen years of age or over and applies therefor for admission.

(2) Under sixteen years of age if his parent or legal guardian applies therefor in his behalf."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
