A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-103-55 SO AS TO CREATE THE HIGHER EDUCATION ADVISORY COUNCIL OF FACULTY AND TO PROVIDE ITS DUTIES AND MEMBERSHIP.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 59-103-55. There is created the Higher Education Advisory Council of Faculty whose role is to advise the State Commission on Higher Education on matters of higher education in which the faculty members of the state's public colleges and universities may have an interest. The council shall consist of one faculty member of each state college, university, and community college selected by the faculty of that institution. An alternate member may be selected to serve in the absence of the elected council member. Terms of the members are for one year beginning on the first day of May of each year. The council shall meet on a monthly basis at a time and location determined by the members."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
